ISN Capacity Building Programs Deputy Chair: Call for Expressions of Interest/Nominations  

This call for expressions of interest and nominations is open to all ISN members in good standing.

The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) welcomes expressions of interest and nominations for the position of ISN Capacity Building Programs Deputy Chair.

The ISN has a longstanding mission to build the capacity of healthcare professionals by addressing workforce shortages, developing effective multidisciplinary teams, and enhancing kidney care facilities to address patients’ needs, particularly in low resource settings. It does so through several distinct granting programs and other training activities which provide continued support to our members from the developing nephrology community.

The Capacity Building Programs Chair leads the Core Programs Committee (CPC), which oversees the strategic coordination of the ISN Capacity Building programmatic activities including, among others, the following activities:

• Fellowships
• Continuing Medical Education
• Sister Renal Centers & Sister Transplant Centers
• Clinical Research
• Educational Ambassadors
• Mentorship
• Saving Young Lives
• Regional Training Centers

All these activities are linked to regional boards, working groups, initiatives, and other programs within the ISN and externally.

The aim of the CPC is to ensure the relevance of ISN Capacity Building activities, evaluate their local and regional impact, build bridges between them, and maximize the synergies across all ISN initiatives in low resource countries. This position requires extensive strategic input and oversight of the ISN grant-making and capacity-building programs listed above and therefore considerable knowledge about global nephrology challenges.

Previous experience and knowledge of the work of these ISN Programs will be a strong asset.

The Deputy Chair will be selected according to these eligibility criteria

• Strong leadership skills
• Proven understanding and experience in educational activities targeted to low-and-middle income countries (LMICs)
• Availability to devote regular time and effort for active participation and input; email accessible and able to regularly connect to conference calls
• Willingness to travel on behalf of ISN
• Proficiency in English
• ISN member in good standing, and with a demonstrated interest in and commitment to ISN activities

Additional Information

The work is year-round and consists of regular conference calls with other members of the CPC (i.e. other individual ISN Programs leaders). The CPC as a whole ordinarily has a face-to-face meeting at the WCN and/or American Society of Nephrology Kidney Week.

Term

This is a volunteer leadership position for a period of approximately one year, starting at WCN’22 and ending at WCN’23. At the end of this term, the Deputy Chair is then expected to succeed the current Core Programs Committee Chair until WCN’25. There is no honorarium attached to this role.

Call for Expressions of Interest and Nominations for Deputy Chair, ISN Sister Renal Centers Committee

The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) welcomes expressions of interest and nominations for the position of Deputy Chair of the ISN Sister Renal Centers (SRC) Committee, to succeed Chih-Wei Yang who will become Chair of the Committee in replacement of Marcelo Orias, starting at the ISN World Congress of Nephrology 2022 (WCN’22).

The SRC Committee helps manage the ISN SRC Program, which is part of the overall capacity building effort of the ISN and strives to bring essential teaching and training to doctors and healthcare practitioners in low resource countries (i.e. LICs, LMICs and UMICs as per World Bank status). The SRC Program aims at enhancing the clinical practice of nephrology at emerging centers through a variety of training exchanges.

The main work of the ISN SRC Committee is the online scoring of the SRC applications once a year (deadline is on October 1st) – the majority of the work therefore takes place in October and November. The SRC Committee ordinarily has a face-to-face meeting at the WCN and/or American Society of Nephrology Kidney Week (ASN).

The Deputy Chair role is a volunteer position for a period of approximately 2 years, starting at WCN’22 and ending at WCN’24. The Deputy Chair will assist the Chair (or deputize when she/he is not in attendance) and prepare to assume the Chair role after approximately 2 years. The position is not remunerated.

As part of its involvement with the SRC Committee, the SRC Deputy Chair will also sit on the ISN-TTS Sister Transplant Centers (STC) Committee. When the SRC Deputy Chair becomes the SRC Chair, they will also become the ISN Co-Chair of the STC Committee, alongside the Co-Chair representing TTS.

This call for expressions of interest and nominations is open to all ISN members in good standing.

The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) welcomes expressions of interest and nominations for the position of Deputy Chair of the ISN Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program Committee, succeeding Sydney Tang who will become Chair of the Committee in replacement of Peter Blake, at the ISN World Congress of Nephrology 2022 (WCN’22).

The CME Program supports faculty to present talks and workshops at regional nephrology-related meetings, bringing expert speakers together from around the world to share knowledge and experience in clinical care and research.

This is a volunteer leadership position for a period of approximately 2 years, starting at WCN’22 and ending at WCN’24. At the end of their term, the Deputy Chair is then expected to succeed the Chair. There is no honorarium attached to this role. ISN staff provide operational support to the Program, and the Chair and Deputy Chair are supported by a committee with regional representation which contributes to review and approval of submitted proposals.

The CME Program Committee helps manage the CME Program, which is part of the overall capacity building effort of the ISN and strives to bring essential teaching and training to doctors and healthcare practitioners in low resource countries. The CME Program intends to establish a dialogue amongst the various nephrology communities, stimulate their interest in expanding their programs and developing relationships with experts who can provide additional information and support as well as trigger some interest in the ISN activities and network. The CME Program Committee reviews the applications collected all year round and decides about the most relevant ones for support. The CME Program Committee ordinarily has a face-to-face meeting at the WCN and/or American Society of Nephrology Kidney Week.

This call for expressions of interest and nominations is open to all ISN members in good standing

The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) welcomes expressions of interest and nominations for the position of Deputy Chair of the ISN Educational Ambassadors Program Committee, succeeding Gavin Dreyer who will become Chair of the Committee in replacement of Elena Zakharova, at the ISN World Congress of Nephrology 2022 (WCN’22).

The Educational Ambassadors Program enables renal centers to host experts to provide specific hands-on training or help develop new skills or services (examples would include initiating acute and chronic dialysis programs, interventional nephrology, renal pathology, nurse or technician training, CKD management in a local setting), develop an education curriculum, or to initiate community-based research or screening programs.

This is a volunteer leadership position for a period of approximately 2 years, starting at WCN’22 and ending at WCN’24. At the end of their term, the Deputy Chair is then expected to succeed the Chair. There is no honorarium attached to this role. ISN staff provide operational support to the Program, and the Chair and Deputy Chair are supported by a committee with regional representation which contributes to review and approval of submitted proposals.

The Educational Ambassadors Program Committee helps manage the Educational Ambassadors Program, which is part of the overall capacity building effort of the ISN and strives to bring essential teaching and training to doctors and healthcare practitioners in low resource countries. The Educational Ambassadors Program Committee reviews the applications collected all year round and decides about the most relevant ones for support while developing innovative ways to adapt to the new reality (COVID-19), sustain the program’s impact, and increase the number of regional connections. The Educational Ambassadors Program Committee ordinarily has a face-to-face meeting at the WCN and/or American Society of Nephrology Kidney Week.
