Call for expressions of interest/nominations for
ISN World Kidney Day Joint Steering Committee, ISN Member

The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) welcomes expressions of interest/nominations for the position of ISN member of the World Kidney Day (WKD) Joint Steering Committee (JSC). The position will start at the World Congress of Nephrology 2024 (WCN’24).

About the WKD JSC

WKD started in 2006 and is a joint initiative of the ISN and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations – World Kidney Alliance (IFKF-WKA).

It is the leading kidney health awareness campaign at global level and strives to raise awareness on the importance of kidney health and reduce the frequency of kidney disease and its associated health impacts worldwide.

The WKD JSC represents the 2 partner organizations who founded WKD (ISN and IFKF-WKA) with the aim to oversee the implementation of the WKD Campaign. The WKD JSC’s role is to agree on the specific goals and deliverables of the Campaign Plan as developed by the Campaign Partners and to foster the success of the campaign. Each organization appoints 5 members to the WKD JSC.

The Role

The role and responsibilities of ISN representatives on the WKD JSC include:

  • Ensuring that the WKD Campaign is established as a key advocacy, communication and awareness raising campaign aimed at promoting kidney health with external stakeholders including the general public, international and national decision-makers, patients and others as appropriate.
  • Acting as key link between the WKD JSC and the ISN leadership/ISN Executive Committee (ExCom) so that information flow is maintained. Regular contact among the ISN representatives on WKD JSC will be fostered through conference calls and meetings as appropriate.
  • Promoting and increasing the visibility of the WKD campaign at the international, regional and national level.
  • Ensuring that the perspectives and requirements of ISN are well understood and represented within the WKD JSC.
  • Representing the ISN leadership at the WKD JSC and ensuring that the WKD strategic work plans and annual budgets reflect and align with ISN’s strategic objectives. Communication with ISN Regional Boards, ISN ExCom and the WKD ISN project director about WKD activities is expected on a regular basis.
  • Participating actively in the WKD Campaign teleconferences and related meetings.
  • Developing and identifying opportunities for collaboration between the WKD and other ISN programs and initiatives, increasing its integration with other ISN activities. Regular communication with Advocacy Working Group will be encouraged through official representation of one WKD JSC member on this group.
  • Coordinating with ISN its strategic positions and attendance of WKD meetings on an ongoing basis.

Selection Criteria

  • Distinguished themselves professionally, especially in the area of kidney health advocacy, education and awareness-raising in their own countries or region.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues specific to the WKD, and commitment to the purposes of the WKD, advocacy and awareness-raising in general.
  • Email accessible and able to regularly connect to conference calls
  • Demonstrated interest in ISN activities
  • ISN member in good standing

Additional information

The position will start at WCN’24 for an initial term of approximately 2-years until WCN’26. The position may be renewed for up to two further terms, to a maximum of approximately 6-years (note: renewal is not automatic and based on group’s needs). Timeline – October: Application period open. November: Positions decided by ISN leadership. December: Applicants notified of outcome.
