Events - @ISNeducation Nuances in Nephrology Webinar: Extracorporeal Kidney Replacement Therapy for Acute Kidney Injury

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a syndrome characterized by abrupt deterioration of renal function that results in a rapid decline in glomerular filtration rate, which may result in the accumulation of nitrogenous metabolites and hydro electrolytic disturbances. Studies suggest that AKI occurs between 3% and 15% of hospitalized patients, affecting between 30% and 50% of patients allocated to intensive care units (ICU). The overall mortality attributed to these patients is also quite variable and may exceed 50% in critically ill patients. Kidney-replacement therapy may be urgently needed to prevent death from uremia. This lecture will review timing, dose, types, adequacy and outcomes of KRT in AKI patients.
