AKI care training in Nepal

The Kidney Care Network recently organized the first acute kidney injury training course for health care providers at Nepal’s B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.

The course is part of the next phase of the 0by25 initiative, testing how interventions of the 0by25 initiative’s Pilot Feasibility Projects are implemented in routine clinical care.

The Kidney Care Network is working with sites in Bolivia, Malawi, Nepal, Brazil and South Africa to improve the standard of care in acute kidney injury detection and management, but in a way that is appropriate and sustainable in the local setting.

Local experts train all relevant healthcare workers at the sites, using educational materials evaluated as successful in the feasibility project.

‘We continue to collect data to measure the impact of this implementation project,” Feehally says, ‘this data will be crucial when engaging with local health authorities in the future to seek their support and ensure the interventions proposed become part of normal clinical care in the long term.’
