ISN recently participated in the 144th World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board meeting that took place in Geneva, Switzerland, from January 24 to February 1st, 2019.
This was a valuable opportunity to highlight the case of kidney disease worldwide, calling for integrated action on prevention, early detection and management.
During the meeting, ISN was asked to take the floor as the only kidney organization in official relations with the WHO. ‘We underlined that around 850 million people worldwide live with some form of kidney disease, with chronic kidney disease predicted to become the fifth leading cause of years of life lost by 2040,’ says ISN Executive Director Charu Malik.
Furthermore, ISN called on Member States to deliver health systems with integrated and comprehensive services aimed at prevention, early detection and treatment of all non-communicable diseases, including kidney disease, and leaving no disease behind.
